FORK LIFT TRUCK SAFETY: THE FACTS
Did you know?
- This year, around eight UK workers will be killed by fork lift trucks.
- Annually,
more than 400 employees suffer amputations, fractures or dislocations,
or need resuscitation or an overnight hospital stay, following fork
lift accidents.
- More
than one UK worker per day is seriously injured in a fork lift truck
accident – more than cars and HGVs put together, (Defined by RIDDOR )
- More people are killed by fork lifts in September than any other month of the year.
- About two thirds of people killed by fork lift trucks are pedestrians
- There are an estimated 350,000 fork lift trucks currently working in
Britain – many in public places like garden centres and DIY shops – so
this message is for everyone.

Fork lift trucks are dangerous. If you see one, keep your distance.
